Does Temperature Matter for Commercial Driveway Sealcoating?

Commercial Driveway Sealcoating Company in Minneapolis, MN

Asphalt sealcoating will protect your commercial driveway from UV rays, precipitation, and automobile fluids. However, it’s important to know that the effectiveness of sealcoating depends on the temperature. For this reason, our commercial driveway contractors in Minneapolis and St. Paul won’t sealcoat in temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Here’s what you need to know about driveway sealcoating and why you won’t want to miss the opportunity to sealcoat this year.

The Sealcoating Season

As long as the weather cooperates, our asphalt contractors offer driveway sealcoating from May to September. However, there may be opportunities to sealcoat outside these months if we experience unseasonably warm weather in early spring or late fall.

Don’t miss your opportunity to sealcoat your commercial asphalt driveway this spring or summer! Unlike states further south, Minnesota has a short sealcoating season. For this reason, we recommend you call our driveway sealcoating contractors as soon as possible before demand for sealcoating skyrockets. We offer commercial asphalt sealcoating as long as the weather permits.

Warm Weather Is Best

We understand that you may be anxious to sealcoat your commercial driveway this spring. However, we have to wait until the weather is consistently above 50 degrees before we can apply driveway sealer in good conscience. If a driveway sealer is applied in cold weather, it won’t bond to pavement to form a protective layer. Instead, it’ll quickly wear off and leave your asphalt driveway exposed to the elements.

The whole point of asphalt sealcoating is to protect your commercial driveway from the elements. However, you can’t do this if your driveway sealer isn’t applied during optimal weather conditions. It’s worth your time and money to wait for warm dry weather conditions before driveway sealcoating.

If there’s low humidity on the day we apply a sealcoat, your driveway could cure in as little as 5 hours. However, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours before letting vehicles drive and park on your asphalt driveway. That way, your newly sealed surface will have enough time to set up.

Cold Weather And Sealcoating

We highly recommend you wait to apply driveway sealer until after the temperature consistently reaches 50 degrees. Otherwise, the sealer won’t adhere to the surface of your asphalt driveway and will quickly wear off. Driveways that have been sealed in cold weather are more prone to fading, cracking, and potholing.

If you’re unsure whether it’s time to schedule commercial driveway sealcoating, call us today. We’d be more than happy to help you plan the best time for asphalt sealcoating. For sealcoating to be successful, you’ll need to first fill in cracks and potholes. That way, your driveway sealcoating will last as long as possible.
